Why is it important to take this test?

More than 50% of the population carries genetic variants in the methylation pathway that can cause an increase in the amino acid homocysteine. Hyperhomocysteinemia is closely linked to an increased risk of thrombophilias and cardiovascular diseases, as well as some neurological disorders.

Methylation profiling analyzes critical genes in the methylation pathway, such as MTHFR, MTR, MTRR , and COMT . The methylation pathway is central to detoxification and metabolic cycling.

Knowing whether a person carries a key genetic variant in the methylation process allows for nutritional and supplementation adjustments to reduce associated risks.

What is the methylation profile test?

The test includes the analysis of five genetic variants located in the MTHFR , MTR, MTRR , and COMT genes. Specifically:

 – C677T and A1298C variants of the MTHFR gene
