What does the test consist of?
This is a noninvasive test that measures hydrogen/methane in exhaled air. The lactose intolerance breath test is a simple, noninvasive, and completely harmless test. On the day of the test, an initial breath sample will be taken by blowing into a collection container to establish a baseline. This is done to measure normal breath gas levels before administration of the sugar, fructose. After administration of the substrate, breath samples will be taken every 25 minutes. The total duration of the test is 3.5 hours. These samples will be analyzed to measure hydrogen and methane levels in the breath.
What should I keep in mind before taking the test?
It’s important to follow the prior instructions regarding diet and requirements to prepare for sample collection. You can find the specifications here .
Receive the kit at home, extract the samples following the instructions, and we will pick it up.
It is important that the results of a fructose intolerance test be interpreted by a healthcare professional with experience in gastroenterology, as the interpretation can be complex and must consider the patient’s clinical context.

What will you discover with the breath test?
The objective is to confirm or rule out the presence of this intolerance in patients who experience gastrointestinal symptoms after consuming foods or beverages containing fructose.
Fructose intolerance is a disorder in which the body has difficulty digesting and absorbing fructose, a type of natural sugar found in fruits, fruit juices and smoothies, some vegetables, and honey. Fructose intolerance can be caused by deficiencies in the enzymes needed to break down fructose in the small intestine, such as fructose-1-phosphate aldolase, or by problems transporting fructose across the cell membrane of the small intestine. Symptoms of fructose intolerance may include abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea, nausea, and general malaise after ingesting fructose.
