Bacterial overgrowth test – SIBO

What does the test consist of?
It’s a noninvasive test that measures hydrogen/methane in exhaled air. The SIBO breath test is a simple, noninvasive, and completely harmless test.
On the day of the test, an initial breath sample will be taken by blowing into a collection container to establish a baseline. This is done to measure normal breath gas levels before the administration of a sugar (lactitol/lactulose). After the administration of the substrate, breath samples will be taken every 25 minutes. The total duration of the test is 3.5 hours. These samples will be analyzed to measure breath hydrogen and methane levels.
What should I keep in mind before taking the test?
It’s important to follow the prior instructions regarding diet and requirements to prepare for sample collection. You can find the specifications here .
It is important that the interpretation of SIBO test results be performed by a healthcare professional with experience in gastroenterology, as interpretation can be complex and must consider the patient’s clinical context.
Receive the kit at home, extract the samples following the instructions and we will pick it up.

What will you discover with the SIBO test?
The goal of performing the SIBO test is to diagnose the disorder so that corrective measures can be taken to reverse and balance the intestinal flora.
SIBO is a gastrointestinal disorder in which there is an excess of bacteria in the small intestine, which normally has a relatively low number of bacteria.
In fact, this tissue is considered almost sterile, which is key to preventing competition when it comes to absorbing nutrients.
When small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) occurs, bacteria colonize the intestinal mucosa and compete for nutrient absorption, leading to malabsorption or nutritional deficiencies. Symptoms that may occur include weight loss, bloating, flatulence, anemia, or diarrhea, among others.
